Badminton Club
All Year 7s, boys and girls, irrespective of ability or previous experience are welcome at Year 7 badminton club which operates on Friday lunchtimes throughout the autumn and spring terms. In a normal year, over half the year group come to badminton club at some point. The running of the club is helped greatly by Sixth Form students. The aim of the club is social as well as competitive.
Each year the school holds a badminton tournament for Year 7s. All are welcome to play whether or not they go regularly to badminton club. There are two doubles competitions, one for boys, one for girls. The winning pairs receive small trophies.
For Years 8-13, badminton operates as an after-school club, from 4 – 5.30 pm on a weekday afternoon, currently Monday. A wide range of ages and abilities are represented at badminton club and pupils are encouraged to play with and against those of different age groups. Mixed doubles is also encouraged! Coaching is available for those who want it. Pupils/students are not expected to provide their own racquets. There is usually a fairly informal staff vs pupils match at some point during the year.
Annual house competitions take place in badminton as follows:
Senior Girls: (Years 10-13, four pairs from each house)
Senior Boys: (Years 10-13, four pairs from each house)
Junior: (Years 7-9, two pairs of boys and two pairs of girls from each house)
