This is a forward-looking school and all staff share a common ambition for their students to achieve success in the broadest possible terms, both academically and in their personal development. We balance new ideas against the need for stability and consistency in the application of best practice. School must be a place of security as well as one of challenge.
Our plans for the future are ambitious and are most easily grouped under the following headings:
Preparation for life in the 21st century
We must ensure that our students are flexible in their approach, that they have the necessary IT skills for the world which they will enter, and that they recognise their responsibility to one another and to their environment. This goal will be achieved through our Careers Education Programme, PSHE and through increasing the opportunities to develop leadership and to take responsibility within school.
Developments in learning and teaching
We are continually reviewing our teaching methods and recognise that these must change as the skills, attributes and backgrounds of our students change. The learning of our students must also adapt and change and therefore they too must learn new approaches. We will achieve the above through continual investment in high quality resources for teaching and learning, and also through CPD training for our staff and a continual updating of their knowledge and techniques.
Changes to accommodation
The fabric of the buildings and the resources for learning are key to the future developments within the school. In January 2009 we celebrated the opening of a six-lane, 25-metre swimming pool, and the refurbishment of the laboratories was completed during the summer of 2009. These developments were funded through the Governors’ Business and Strategy Plan which carefully analyses the longer-term needs of the schools within the Coventry School Foundation.
